H & E stained cross section. Ascaris is characterised by its large size, thick multi-layered cuticle, fibrous hypodermis with conspicuous lateral chords (see above at 11 oclock and 5 oclock) and an intestine lined with tall slender columnar cells. (see Orihel and Ash. 1995 for details)
